The level of joy I feel at being inside my own home–a home I purchased–goes beyond anything I ever imagined. Even when problems pop up, I’m having the time of my life. Right now, I’m struggling to sort out the garage door opener situation. Our home came with a fancy garage door setup. There are 4 ways you can open the garage door: the buttons on the wall near the door into the house, the remote “clicker” you keep in your car, the keypad next to the garage door, and an app on your phone. Somehow, I’ve managed to get the app, remotes, and keypad linked up but the buttons near the door to the house–the ones that are physically connected and powered by the garage motor–are not linked. Each time I’ve tried to link them up, I’ve managed to factory reset the doors, starting everything over from step 1. I think a lot of people would get frustrated or pissed off and give up but honestly, I’m just tickled. I love technology and this sort of thing just tickles a part in my brain. Clearly I’ve done something wrong but I wonder what it is?
Shower Troubles
So, our master bathroom has a really fancy shower head. I’d never seen anything like it until we went house hunting and apparently, it’s becoming a popular thing to have. The shower head is basically an upside down “L” with A TON of nozzles and spouts where the water can come out of. There are 3 knobs: one that controls temperature and the other two control where the water comes out. The top knob controls the water the comes down like rain or like from a spout over your head or you can set it to come out of these two huge nozzles that spray you down as if you’re in a car wash. It’s hilarious. The middle knob has a similar setup: you can set the water to come out of a spout low so it’s hitting you from waist down, set it so that the water goes to a hose/sprayer you can take off the stand and wash your back, or set it so that the water goes to these tiny nozzles that are at perfect face and boob height. I’ve never been so excited to shower in my life. It’s incredible.
Well, on Day 2, the fancy shower stopped working properly. Whenever we switched the knob to the hose/sprayer, nothing would come out of the head. Instead, water would gush from the bottom of the shower panel. Did I mention this fancy shower has a digital temperature monitor and blue light setup? Which means…electricity. Battery powered electricity but still. On Day 2 and 3 of living in my new house, I became afraid of being shocked by my fancy shower. I was able to figure out that the shower panel just lifts off the wall, so I had Stephen hold it while I took a look at the setup and learned that a hose came loose. Easy fix AND Stephen accidentally got a nice shower while he held the shower panel for me. Heehee…
Lock Box Scare
I know I’m doing these stories out of order but it’s so much easier on my brain to do it this way. I hope that’s ok. Things are going a lot better for us now but when I first pulled up to the house, I was in a rush to get inside before the movers showed up. The realtor had given us the code to the lock box last month so the plan was to grab the key, get inside, and do a quick walkthrough to figure out where I wanted things to go. The kids and I pull up to the house, I jump out, run to the back where the lock box is, and put in the code. Nothing. I try again. Nothing. A few minutes later, a semi truck with our things on it pulls up and blocks the driveway. I meet the driver and explain the situation, give him permission to start prepping things, and anxiously wait for answers.
Long story short: the realtor gave us the wrong code.
As soon as I told Stephen what was going on, he called a few people who were able to get in touch with the realtor (it was before business hours) and he was able to get us the correct code. But the real kicker? It turns out that the code to the keypad on the garage door had been set to the house number and I had almost tried it but decided against it. Blub, blub…
Happy Wife, Happy Life
Overall, I’m super happy with my new house and everything in it. I’ve never been so excited to unpack, clean, and design. I’ve got my 3D printer up and I’ve already started working on creating shelves for my collectibles. I don’t really have a timeline for when everything is going to be done but I do plan on doing a house tour as soon as I can. I want to thank everyone who has wished us well and prayed for us throughout this journey. It was hell. Honestly, it was the most miserable I’ve been in a while but it was soooo worth it. This house is lovely and I’m so thrilled to call it mine.
